423-Authenticity in Multicultural and Social Justice Context: Humanistic and Clinical Considerations
This session is Open to:
All of Saybrook Community (Faculty, Students, Staff, etc..)
Description:
Authenticity is distinct from similar concepts like “genuineness” and “congruence.” This three hour workshop will consist of presentation, large group discussion, and breakout room discussions It will consider and explore existential, humanistic, and transpersonal aspects of authenticity. Authenticity is understood and experienced differently in varied multicultural contexts than in the traditional Western, white, and cisheteronormative contexts These nuances have important implications for social justice issues, challenges, and work. We will also discuss the significance of authenticity in psychotherapy relationships and how to work with diverse clients with regard to authentic ways of living and being in the world.
