Description
This seminar will critically examine the various meanings of truth, facts, science, culture, belief and knowledge in a contemporary social and political environment in which these ideas are highly contested. Using a combination of didactic and participatory approaches, the seminar will include exploration of recent attempts to utilize social media to shape electoral and cultural politics in the United States and elsewhere; digital storytelling approaches as a way to narrate immigrant experiences; indigenous storytelling as a mode of social change; and Afro-centric Healing Circles as a way of communicating and creating shared understandings.
