Description
This lecture will provide an introduction to transgender mental health care. Participants will learn the DSM-5 criteria for Gender Dysphoria, mental health outcomes for transgender individuals, and the impact of prejudice and discrimination. We will also discuss the APA Guidelines for treating transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. Further, we will discuss hormonal treatments, surgical treatments, and local and national resources for transgender clients. Finally, we will discuss the WPATH standards and the role of psychologists in writing letters for medical treatments.
