Peer Learning Event: Happiness and the Benefits of Positive Emotions

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM PDT

Audience

All of Saybrook Community

Description

The objective of this seminar is to provide a brief history and overview of Positive Psychology and Fredrickson’s Theory of Positive Emotions, explore the empirical benefits of experiencing positive emotions, and discuss clinical applications, such as Fredrickson’s 3-to-1 ratio, practices for clients to engage in, and ideas for group therapy. The focus of my dissertation and research is on happiness and the benefits of positive emotions. Positive psychology is the foundation of my clinical work.

Goal 1: To further deepen awareness of the benefits emerging from practicing positive psychology tenets.

Goal 2: To develop competency in the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions through exploration of the empirical data.

Goal 3: To explore the implications of positive psychology in clinical practice.
