CHCP + EPL Winter 2026 - Session 1A

Wed, Feb 4, 2026

06:00 PM - 08:00 PM MST

The Change Health Community Program (CHCP) is a program based out of the University of Alberta Department of Family Medicine. It is a preventative, holistic, community-based program that helps families re-learn healthy living together. Each week consists of a ~1-hour cooking class with a registered dietitian followed by a ~ 45-minute mental health, social connection, nutrition or physical activity workshop.

For Winter 2026, we are continuing our partnership with the Edmonton Public Library to host this program with the support of the Edmonton Community Foundation and the Northern Alberta Clinical Family Medicine Fund. It is open to the public and family can include parents, grandparents, caregivers etc. Each session is limited to 10 families and a $15 fee is required for registration.

In Session 1A, we will make Beef and Vegetable Macaroni and then create a Valentine's Day craft together! This session will be repeated again on February 11, 2026. We are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions and all tickets are non-refundable.

If this registration link is closed, the class is full. Please email chcp@ualberta.ca if you wish to be added to the waitlist for a session.

FAQs

Is there a minimum age for my child to attend?

We recommend that children be at least 4 years old to attend. All minors (<18) must attend with an adult. We use sharp knives, stoves and ovens in our cooking classes. If your child can use these tools safely under supervision, they are welcome to attend. Our programs last for 2 hours and ends at 8 PM. Please consider your child's attention span and needs when registering.

What is the purpose of this program?

Our purpose is to provide a space for families to connect and learn about healthy living together. We choose simple, quick and budget-friendly recipes that you can recreate at home. We introduce families to local resources or free at-home activities to do together.

If you are looking for more complex recipes, please register for the 2-hour cooking classes offered by EPL.
